Inspired by an anomalous situation where I was walking in the woods with Alex and her unique and opinionated Mother said, " You have to wonder why are we even here, why are we living?" This was prompted by the long list of people close to us that have been deeply suffering, lately, mainly from physical aliments. It struck me and I felt what she was saying deeply although I do believe we have tools to help eradicate stressors from our bodies and two of the most effective are massage and restorative yoga.
In this special class I will guide you through a series of restorative poses while licensed massage therapist Christy Lee will use gentle myofascial techniques to help release held tensions and turn off the body's stress response and turn the body towards repair, growth, optimal immune function and other self nurturing processes. This combination will unravel the mind and body and illicit the relaxation response to help create healthy, healing habits.
Christy Lee is a Philly native. She is a licensed massage therapist who trained
at Owen’s Institute of Massage & Holistic Medicine in Delaware.
She graduated with a certification in Swedish massage in 1996. Since then, Christy has continued to train in Deep Tissue, Myofascial Release Technique & Craniosacral.
She melds all of these modalities in her work as she sees fit for each client. Her bodywork practice is highly informed by her dance practice. Christy has performed
and choreographed professionally since 1995. Modern dance with a strong base in contact improvisation has been a crucial element in her therapeutic work. Through
the years of her dance training/choreographic experience, she has gained
a keen sense of the give and take of weight and energy.
